How to Make Homemade Lip Balm

Posted on September 9, 2019

Colder weather is coming soon in my home state of Michigan! A favorite fall activity in my house is making our own lip balm. It’s simple, free from synthetic chemicals and great for gifts! Below is the base recipe we use. You can get creative with essential oils and make many different varieties!

Makes enough to fill 4, 1-inch tins.

  • • 3 teaspoons shredded beeswax
  • • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • • ¼ teaspoon peppermint oil (or another essential oil of your choice)

  • Directions:

    1. Bring about 1 inch of water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove the pan from the heat.

    2. Put the beeswax and olive oil in a glass measuring cup with a lip for pouring. Put the measuring cup in the pan of hot water and let sit until the beeswax mixture is completely melted.

    3. Stir in the essential oil and pour into tins. Let cool until solid, about 1 hour.
